Wally Bell Leaves His Mark on UMPS CARE Charities

Wally Bell Leaves His Mark on UMPS CARE Charities

October 15, 2013

The umpiring community, Major League Baseball, UMPS CARE Charities, and children across the country lost a friend yesterday with the sad passing of MLB umpire Wally Bell. Mr. Bell suffered a heart attack on Monday in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. He was 48.

While Wally will be remembered for his umpiring on the field, he will forever be in our hearts for his community endeavors at the ballpark and in children's hospitals across the country. On many occasions, Bell donated tickets and met before games with children awaiting adoption and at-risk youth in mentoring programs. He also participated in many children's hospital events to distribute Build-A-Bear Workshop stuffed animals to children coping with cancer and other serious illnesses.

Thank you Wally for all that you contributed in your short time here with friends. You will be missed!
