Our 2nd Annual UMPS CARE Charities Fairway to the Rockies Golf Tournament was a huge success!
Hosted by retired Major League Baseball Umpire Paul Emmel, the event featured a tremendous crowd and gorgeous weather and lots of fun at the beautiful Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Castle Rock, Colorado, just outside Denver.
Proceeds from the event will support UMPS CARE Charities and our various programs right in the Denver area. We were thrilled to have our first All-Star College Scholarship Program graduate – Josh Perrin – at the tournament to talk about how this scholarship changed his life. Adopted in his teens, Josh went on to earn a degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and he shared how much the mentorship component from MLB Umpires impacted his future.
Our guest of honor was retired MLB Umpire Dale Scott and the event featured emcee Sam Boik from Denver7.
In addition to Paul, we also had MLB Umpire Alex MacKay on hand, and three-time Super Bowl champion Tom Ashworth joining in the fun.
“UMPS CARE has been important to me for many, many years,” said Paul Emmel, who is the charity’s vice president. “Our charity was started in 2006 as a way for the Major League Baseball umpires to give back to the communities in which we work and where we live. The Fairway to the Rockies Golf Tournament this year is just the start of more giving back to the people right here in Colorado.”
