Our 4th Annual East Coast Classic was a huge hit on the golf course, and thanks to supporters, golfers and sponsors of the tournament, UMPS CARE will be delivering 100 Build-A-Bear® furry friends to young patients at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.

The tournament was held at a new course, the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia, and umpires from Little League all the way up the Big Leagues came out to support UMPS CARE. Proceeds have this tournament have made it possible to deliver a dose of joy to kids undergoing hospital treatment.

On October 29, MLB umpires Brennan Miller and Chris Segal, who grew up in northern Virginia and created this tournament, will take time out to hand deliver the new stuffed toys.

Our sponsors and volunteers are THE BEST!

Thank you to Chris Gallaway and his crew from the Gallaway Golf Group for sponsoring breakfast, Jim Spencer and Backyard Barbecue for providing a fantastic BBQ spread for lunch, and Weichert Corporate Housing for sponsoring lunch! Thanks also to Ump Attire for being our golf cart sponsor for the fourth year in a row, and to Right Fit Realty as another 4-year sponsor! It also was great having UMPS CARE board members Jim Bowman (treasurer) and Paul Vetrano of Deloitte at the event!

All of our sponsors are amazing – CARTA Global Properties, Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Umpire Association, Deloitte, Barile Realty Group, Shelton Little League, Fairfield  County Baseball Umpires, Ray Brownlie and Ump Life, Nats Chat Podcast, Wegmans, Total Wine & More, Taylor Pepple & Family, Brian Descovich and Yang Xie.

We also wanted to thank our friends at Glory Days Grill in Lorton, Virginia, for hosting our annual pre-event social!

Huge props go to our East Coast Classic committee, especially Dave Dreigert and Dave Lawrence, Jennifer Powell and Kayli Michels for helping with the leadup to this event, Darrin Besescheck (and his son, DJ!) for traveling from Connecticut once again, Roger Wolfe, Chris Layton and John Epperson for being mega volounteers!

Annie Mae Weiss, who works for the FOX5 morning team and anchors Good Day DC in addition to working as an in-arena host for the Washington Capitals, knocked it out of the park as our event emcee!

We’d also like to thank Brennan Miller and Minor League Baseball Umpires Matt Blackborow and Garret Griffin for sharing their stories at our banquet.

Special thanks to photographer Mike Buscher for capturing these moments from our day on the links and the staff at the Laurel Hill Golf Club.

So great having these supporters join us at our pre-event social at Glory Days Grill in Lorton, Virginia! Ray Brownlie and Mrs. B traveled from Canada for this event! The Bowers family crushed it on and off the course!
