Build-A-Bear Furry Friends Delivered to Kids In Hospitals By UMPS CARE Since 2006!
Through UMPS CARE Charities – the official philanthropy of the Major League Baseball Umpires, umpires Paul Emmel, Alex MacKay and Mark Bass delivered 100 Build-A-Bear® stuffed toys to young patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs. In addition, the umpires delivered outfits for the new furry friends, along with baseball-themed activity books, crayons and crafts and more.
Including the visit today at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs, UMPS CARE Charities has delivered more than 22,600 Build-A-Bear® toys to children undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country and in Canada. Our visit at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs marks our 223rd hospital visit since 2006.
“At UMPS CARE Charities, we know that life is much more than balls and strikes,” said UMPS CARE Charities Executive Director Jennifer Skolochenko-Platt. “The MLB umpires created this charity as a vehicle for giving back, and they know that these visits bring the perfect dose of joy to these children who are facing so many challenges.”
This visit was made possible through a generous grant from the Arby’s Foundation, and some of the volunteers helping at the visit are local Arby’s employees. Beginning on Giving Tuesday, December 3, UMPS CARE Charities is launching its Holiday Hugs campaign, and the Arby’s Foundation is matching all donations, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 to support hospital visits like the one we held today.
