UMPS CARE Charities, the official philanthropy of the Major League Baseball umpires, is thrilled to have delivered 100 Build-A-Bear Workshop® to young patients undergoing treatment today at Seattle Children’s.

Umpires working the Seattle Mariners’ series against the Detroit Tigers – Chris Conroy, Shane Livensparger and Alex MacKay –  took time out to give back to kids undergoing treatment at Seattle Children’s and their families and caregivers.

This delivery at Seattle Children’s marks our 216th visit to a children’s hospital since our program started in 2006. Including this visit, UMPS CARE has delivered 21,965 Build-A-Bear® furry friends to children undergoing medical treatment in pediatric hospitals across the country and in Canada.

“We are proud to have the Major League Baseball umpires return to Seattle Children’s Hospital to deliver Build-A-Bear® furry friends to kids who need a dose of joy,” said UMPS CARE Charities Executive Director Jennifer Skolochenko-Platt. “The MLB umpires know that it is always an easy call to take time out and give back to these kids and families who are facing so many challenges. It might seem like a small gesture to give a toy to a child but it makes a huge impact.”

Special thanks to our partners at the Huron Healthcare, Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball Umpire Association (MLBUA) and our donors for their financial and volunteer support for the Blue for Kids hospital program.
