Little League umpires were treated to a great experience before a Louisville Bats game as they had a pregame meet and greet with the Triple-A umpire crew working the game and retired MLB umpire Tom Hallion.
The Triple-A crew of Robert Nunez, Dillon Wilson and Raul Moreno took time out to meet with a group of teens from the South Oldham Little League and share their stories about baseball and umpiring.
Tom Hallion, who spent 34 years working as a Major League Baseball umpire and makes his home in Louisville, also joined the conversation. Tom had plenty to share as he worked two World Series, three All-Star Games and one World Baseball Classic in his career.
Charles Cooper, coach of the South Oldham Little League group, said the teens loved the experience.
“I asked all my young umpires, and they all said the best part was listening to the umps about their journey,” Charles shared with us. “Thanks again for making that possible.”
The night was even more special was that our friends and longtime partners from Ump-Attire.com joined us in the fun!
We had about 40 people come to the ballpark to meet the umpires and enjoy the Bats game! To date, UMPS CARE has invited more than 330 participants to enjoy umpire meet and greets at MLB and Triple-A ballparks this season!
“We were honored to be a part of a very special opportunity to have professional umpires inspire local youth umpires,” said Jim Kirk, president of Ump-Attire.com. “UMPS CARE is providing a model and network to connect and inspire umpires at all levels.”
