UMPS CARE Charities, the official philanthropy of the Major League Baseball umpires, is thrilled to deliver 100 Build-A-Bear Workshop® to young patients undergoing treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

With the All-Star Game coming to Seattle next month, the MLB umpires wanted to bring some baseball fun to kids and their families.

This delivery at Seattle Children’s Hospital marks our 197th visit to a children’s hospital. To date, UMPS CARE has delivered 20,065 Build-A-Bear® furry friends to children undergoing medical treatment in pediatric hospitals across the country and in Canada.

Umpires Mark Carlson, Brennan Miller and Derek Thomas participated in the special visit. Marie Carlson, Mark’s wife, joined us as a volunteer.

“The Major League Baseball umpires are thrilled they are able to return to Seattle Children’s Hospital and deliver Build-A-Bear® furry friends to kids who need a dose of joy while they are undergoing treatment,” said UMPS CARE Charities Executive Director Jennifer Skolochenko-Platt. “The number 20,000 is truly special and humbling and we are so proud to be able to celebrate this special milestone in the All-Star city of Seattle.

Special thanks to our partners at the Arby’s Foundation, Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball Umpire Association (MLBUA) and our donors for their financial and volunteer support for the Blue for Kids hospital program.
