Meet Denny Haught – 2024 All-Star College Scholarship Recipient

Our scholarship program is more than a check for college expenses – it’s about mentorship. Adam Dowdy, one of Denny’s mentors, is seen here taking time out at a Phoenix Suns game.

Where are you from, what school will you be attending, and what you’re majoring in?

I am from Buckeye, Arizona, and I will be studying Business (Financial Planning) at Arizona State University.

How did you find out about the All-Star Scholarship?

I found out about the All-Star Scholarship after searching on google for scholarships that aid students who have been in foster care.

What does this scholarship mean to you and your education?

Receiving this scholarship allows me to join a program that is committed to supporting students pursuing their education and also lends us mentorship. In addition, opportunities for us to grow our character and professionalism.

Tell us about your family and your adoption. How old were you when you were adopted?

My brother and his wife adopted me the summer before ninth grade when I was 14. When I moved in they already had my nephew, Asher, and now we have my niece, Hannah, as well.

How has being adopted given you a different perspective on life than your peers?

I think that it has made me more conscious of different home environments so I have grown to be more understanding of how peoples homelife environment can impact their behavior.

What’s what thing about you most people don’t know?

Something that most people don’t know about me is that I hold a strong interest in landscape and interior design.

What are some things you want to accomplish during school?

Some of my goals are to graduate college with at least a 3.75 GPA. In addition, I want to be active in ASU’s business clubs and have an internship/job as an upperclassman, which would allow me to get a head start on my career plans, post college.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?

In 10 years, I want to work a job within finance that allows me to positively impact others. More than that, I would like to have started my own family by that time.
