Where are you from, what school will you be attending, and what are you are majoring in? 

Hi! My name is Tori, and I am from South Jersey. I am proud to say that I am a Mighty Mac at Immaculata University, and I am majoring in Business Management.

How did you find out about the All-Star Scholarship? 

During my Senior year of high school, I searched everywhere to find and apply to scholarships that could assist me in paying for college. I began searching for scholarships that surrounded the foster system and adoption, and found UMPS Care. When I saw that the All-Star Scholarship could provide financial assistance and connect me to additional support, I couldn’t wait to get started.

What does this scholarship mean to you and your education? 

I am extremely grateful to have received the All-Star scholarship. It has bridged the financial gap for me to attend Immaculata University, my dream school. It also allows me to focus on my college education without the added financial stress or taking out loans. Completing college without debt will help me to pursue a path where I can provide a financially stable environment for my future children and break the generational financial struggle I experienced with my biological family. 

Tell us about your family and your adoption. How old were you when you were adopted?

I was first placed into the foster system when I was six years old. From there, I transitioned between that foster home and my biological home for about six years. I was placed into my first adoptive home, and remained there for a few years, during which both my biological parents passed away. Some issues in that situation resulted in me being placed back into the system, where I met my parents. Although the journey was not easy, the best day came when I was adopted this past February. My parents have always stayed by my side and been there to push me in the right direction. I am so grateful to be their daughter every day.

How has being adopted given you a different perspective on life than your peers?

Being adopted and spending time in the foster care system has taught me that everyone experiences obstacles in life that test their limits. It encourages me to be more patient, open-minded, and understanding of the situations that others undergo. My personal experience has helped me appreciate the opportunities I have been blessed with and not take them for granted.

What’s one thing about you most people don’t know? 

I really enjoy 3D printing. My Dad introduced me to it, and I first began learning to make him a present for Father’s Day. I became acquainted with a software called OnShape, and designed my own minion print. Since then, I have really enjoyed 3D printing and have printed and painted other figurines. As a big Rapunzel fan, I am most proud of a life-sized Pascal I made.

What are some things you want to accomplish during school? 

During the school year, my goal is to excel in my studies and achieve a GPA of at least 3.7, while gaining a deeper understanding of my major and exploring potential career paths. Outside of the classroom, I would like to become involved in clubs and sports such as track and field, have a job, and regularly participate in service and clubs. 

Where do you want to be in 10 years? 

Over the next ten years, I plan on graduating with my bachelor’s degree. Although I am uncertain in which area, I will have a job in business where I earn enough to provide a happy, stable environment for my future children. I would love to give back to other foster children by either becoming a foster parent or being involved in a program.
