Children in hospitals have received a Build-A-Bear® from MLB Umpires
UMPS CARE Charities pulled off a doubleheader this week – visiting not one, but two children’s hospitals – in one day!
Major League Baseball Umpire crews working games in Seattle and San Francisco took time out to deliver more than 200 Build-A-Bear Workshop® furry friends to young patients undergoing medical treatment at Seattle Children’s and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Including these visits today, UMPS CARE has now made 254 visits to children’s hospitals since 2006.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of UMPS CARE Charities, and with this visit, Major League Baseball Umpires have delivered Build-A-Bear® furry friends to 25,940 young patients. The joy these visits provide to children and their caregivers is priceless.
“Children undergoing medical treatment need an extra dose of smiles and comfort, and for 20 years, the Major League Baseball Umpires have been delivering that to young patients in hospitals,” said UMPS CARE Charities Executive Director Jennifer Skolochenko-Platt. “The umpires’ motto is that helping people is an easy call, and visiting these kids definitely is an easy call to make.”
